Penarwyn House offers luxury self-catering holiday accommodation for couples on the south coast of Cornwall. Beautifully decorated by interior designer Tracey Mannell, each apartment offers a unique and relaxing space. Guests have access to the Secret Garden, which is a gorgeous walled garden with sun loungers and chairs for relaxing.
We are Rachel and David Hay, and we purchased Penarwyn House in September 2023 and are excited to continue to run the property as a luxury holiday let.
Taking over from Tracey and Richard who in their time at Penarwyn lovingly restored the loft space and completely renovated the rear of the property. Using both Tracey’s interior design skills and Richard’s decorating skills, the house was transformed.
The main part of the house remains as our private home, whilst we continue to let the four individual apartments for holidays here in Cornwall.
Penarwyn House was built in 1895 by local landowner and businessman John De Cressy Treffry, from a well-known local family, whose residence at Place House in Fowey is listed in the Doomsday Book. John, once the High Sheriff of Cornwall, built the house for his family and lived here until the 1920’s.
From an historic local family, John’s father built Treffry Viaduct in Luxulyan Valley and the docks at Par in Cornwall. Originally, the house stood in over 60 acres but much of this was sold off post-war.
Over the last 100 years, the house has only had a handful of owners, but had been run as a luxury B&B for many years. In was converted to four luxury holiday lets prior to us purchasing it in 2023.
Hello, I’m Rachel, your host. I have many years’ experience of working in the hospitality industry. I love welcoming guests to our home. It’s important to me that our guests are happy and comfortable, so I really try to go the ‘extra mile’ to ensure this is the case. As I’m also an interior designer, I love creating beautiful, peaceful environments for our guests to enjoy
David ably carries out all the duties expected of a modern-day butler, including greeting our guests, assisting them with any queries and he enjoys a friendly chat too!
Our fluffy friend Teddy, takes his jobs very seriously. He loves to welcome all our guests with a friendly face and a waggy tail. A tip (sorry a treat) may help to let him know he is appreciated for his hard work.
An experienced gardener, Margaret manages all horticultural aspects of the gardens at Penarwyn. She ensures that all areas are kept beautifully tended and the lawns, expertly mown. Margaret is kept happy by a steady supply of tea.
